Theresa is board-certified by the National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy and a Certified Professional Marquette Method NFP Instructor.  She has a passion for women’s health and fertility, as well as optimizing health through an understanding of cycles and charting.

She earned her BA in philosophy and Catholic theology from Thomas Aquinas College in 2008, and went on to get a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy through Grand Valley State University in Michigan in 2018. She has done training in various clinical settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, home health, and pediatric care, and became board-certified in 2020. She has since been excited to unite her love of women’s health with her clinical expertise in OT by becoming a Marquette Method fertility educator.

She has assisted women in coming off birth control, navigating postpartum and breastfeeding, and through other special circumstances such as miscarriage, and managing PCOS symptoms. She has also personally used the Marquette Method for over 11 years, with hands-on expertise in using the Clearblue and Mira monitors. She loves helping clients determine whether the Clearblue Monitor or Mira Analyzer best fits their cycle tracking needs and assists them in understanding their hormone data to avoid or achieve pregnancy.  For clients best served by Mira, she can offer a significant discount code to use on the Mira Analyzer and wands as a Marquette instructor: clients should reach out to inquire or wait until after instruction begins before purchasing supplies for Mira tracking.

Theresa is married to a Catholic upper extremity orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Johnny Nelson, and they live in Raleigh, NC, with their four children.  She loves to read literature and host book clubs for women/couples, experiment with gluten-free sourdough baking, and paint.  She loves to continue to learn and educate herself with the latest research on women’s health and loves the beauty in God’s design for fertility. Natural family planning should be covered pre-deductible and without co-pay in accordance with the Affordable Care Act, equal to birth control coverage, as long as you see a MyCatholicDoctor medical provider that is in network with your insurance and get a referral to a MyCatholicDoctor NFP instructor. Your insurance plan may also require you to obtain a PCP referral. Unfortunately, many insurance carriers inappropriately apply co-pay and deductible for NFP, and inappropriately deny claims. MyCatholicDoctor is fighting this at many levels. If you are billed a co-pay or deductible, or your claim is denied, please contact your insurance company.
