About

Erin Monfiston is a counselor with experience working with adults, adolescents, and children with trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, family and relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, body image issues, bipolar disorder, OCD, and other life transitions. She counsels from a strong Catholic-Christian perspective and is very client-centered in her work. She has worked extensively and effectively with first responders and religious persons. She is a certified licensed independent counselor with the state of Maryland board of counselors and a certified traumatologist with the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology. She has experience working both in the US and abroad. 

Erin Monfiston is a Maryland-licensed graduate professional counselor. Erin received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Divine Mercy University in Virginia in 2019. During her graduate studies, Erin worked in a non-profit providing counseling and treatment for youth, adults, couples, and families. She also did intensive studies in trauma work both domestically and internationally, working with orphans, villages with a history of human trafficking, inmates in local prisons, and training professionals in trauma-informed care for the populations with which they work. 

She has a strong background of working multiculturally, including five years of experience working with refugees and three years working with religious persons and those discerning religious life. She is trained and experienced in working in several different counseling modalities and with many different challenges that people face, including mood disorders, anxiety and depression, eating disorders, self-harm, parenting and relationships, couples counseling, and grief, among others and emphasizes positive support in therapy and recognizing each client’s strengths and resilience, and building on that to promote flourishing. She finds ways of working through life’s challenges that are individual and meaningful to each client. This helps to motivate clients to create their own goals and work towards them efficiently and effectively.
