An Ohio native, Dr. Whittenburg received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Cincinnati. She completed a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at Wright State University in 2000. She then opened her own Internal Medicine-Pediatrics practice in rural Texas, where she delivered the full range of inpatient and outpatient care to people of all ages and walks of life. She returned to Ohio in 2006 and worked as an adult hospitalist for 14 years. During this time, she developed an interest in palliative care, and in 2021, she completed an eight-month professional development course through the Coleman Palliative Medicine Training Program. In 2021, she joined a value-based care company that provided in-home wrap-around services to medically complex adults. During her four years in this role, the Lord began calling her to start her own home visit practice in order to bring compassionate, Christ-centered care to those whom the medical system often disregards and casts aside.
Dr. Whittenburg has seen firsthand how providing medical care in the home enhances the doctor-patient relationship and improves medical outcomes. Combined with telehealth, this approach has many benefits, including avoidance of medication errors; fall prevention; earlier treatment of illness to prevent hospitalization; and the ability to impact social, emotional, and spiritual needs more directly. Entering into people’s daily experiences allows her to produce creative and individualized care plans that are truly consistent with her patients’ goals and values.
Dr. Whittenburg lives in southwestern Ohio with her devoted husband of 29 years. They have three young adult daughters, a dog, and a cat. Dr. Whittenburg is an active member of her church, leading Bible studies and retreats, bringing Holy Communion to the homebound, and serving as a lector. She enjoys hiking, traveling, and dabbling in art. She is currently expanding her knowledge of nutrition to help patients understand the role of food in healing the body. In addition to her work at MyCatholicDoctor, Dr. Whittenburg serves as part-time medical director for a small palliative care group and as a substitute teacher at her parish school.
Dr. Whittenburg looks forward to caring for you and your family in person or via telehealth.
