Bien retired from the United States Coast Guard after 22 years of service. He has been a Nationally Certified Physician Assistant since 2012. He is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine. Bien was also a PA for the White House Medical Unit rendering executive medical care for the Obama and Trump administrations.

Bien is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and he completed his physician assistant training with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (Interservice PA Program).

Bien and his wife, Laura, have five children. They enjoy traveling and supporting Catholic missionaries around the world.
