Maria Abesa, M.D.

Dr. Maria Abesa is a pediatrician, wife, and busy mother of four. She takes care of pediatric patients from birth to young adulthood. She is grateful for the opportunity to provide medical care and guidance through My Catholic Doctor.

Dr. Abesa is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the Catholic Medical Association. She currently practices pediatrics in Southern California, working part-time with a regional healthcare organization. She has a special interest in working with children with behavioral challenges, including ADHD, ASD, and developmental delays.

Dr. Abesa has always known she wanted to be a pediatrician, even before she could pronounce the word. She graduated from medical school at the University of the Philippines and completed her Pediatric residency training at the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital in California. During residency, she received the Ambulatory Pediatrics Award for exemplary patient care, outstanding work ethic, and patient advocacy.

Dr. Abesa believes that a strong, loving family environment plays a vital role in raising strong, healthy children. She advocates for intentional parental involvement in every aspect of a child’s upbringing and education. She believes that children can overcome almost any challenge they face, with loving guidance and support from their parents. This has led to her becoming active in organizing parenting and family enrichment courses in her local community. Her favorite parenting books include: Character Building by David Isaacs, Parenting with Love and Logic by Foster Cline, The Whole-Brain Child by Daniel Sigel, and Compass by James Stenson.

Dr. Abesa loves hanging out at home with her husband and their children. Her hobbies include cooking and baking (to the benefit of her family!), reading, playing board games, going on walks, and spending time with her friends.
