Dr. Thompson was born outside of Philadelphia, raised in southern California, and went to college at the University of Illinois, where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School with honors in 1982, and then trained in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at UT Southwestern from 1982-1987. He is board certified in both fields. He served on the faculty of UT Southwestern from 1987-1993, serving as co-director of the dialysis unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital, and as an attending physician on the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant service and the nephrology representative to the Multidisciplinary Systemic Lupus Clinic. He founded Dallas Kidney Specialists, P.A., on December 1, 1993.

He is married to Mayra Jimenez Thompson, M.D. They have 4 children, born 1985-1993. He is a member of St. Rita Catholic Community and is currently president of the Catholic Physicians Guild of Dallas, the local affiliate of the Catholic Medical Association.

He enjoys the care of people with kidney disease at all stages, from mild problems to kidney failure, including dialysis and transplantation. He has a special interest in immune-mediated kidney diseases, including systemic lupus nephritis. His current practice is limited to office nephrology.

Dr. Thompson strives for excellence in his medical practice. Additionally, he knows that his purpose is not to mend a broken machine, but to minister to a person who is in need of respect and love. His goal is for solidarity with the patient during their journey. He is an advocate for life, from its beginning, to its natural end.

Patients

Dr. Thompson cares for people with kidney diseases, including avoidance of dialysis, preparation for dialysis (if needed), preparation for kidney transplantation and office management after transplantation. Dr. Thompson’s partners take care of his patients needing dialysis or hospitalization.
