About Me

As a Catholic, I understand the importance of your spiritual life. As a psychologist, I understand the significance of your psychological life. While some psychological problems are also spiritual in nature, not all of them are. Nevertheless, Jesus Christ is relevant to every area of your life. He is a healer and a reformer. As St. Augustine writes, God is closer to you than you are to yourself. My goal is to cooperate with Christ during my therapeutic relationship with you to help you accomplish your goals and live a more flourishing life.

I obtained my Ph.D. in Psychology in 1980.

I am licensed as a Psychologist in New York and I am also registered as a telehealth provider for the state of Florida.

Working with individuals, couples, families, and groups, I have been providing a full range of psychological services in a myriad of settings for almost 40 years. I have extensive experience serving persons with varying emotional needs in private practice settings. I have also counseled adults in day treatment programs, youth in psychiatric centers, and persons in maximum security correctional facilities.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to help others through MyCatholicDoctor.

Over the years, I have found that for most people, treatment with clearly defined goals that are supportive of your individual needs works best. I am committed to working hard to support and encourage you, and I will similarly require the necessary effort from you to achieve your aims.

My services include psychological therapy for individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples, and families; psychological testing and evaluations for intelligence, academic learning, memory, ADHD, autism, psychopathology, and other concerns; fit for duty examinations; and the FOCCUS Program for marriage preparation.

Since 1981, I have been happily married to Dr. Jeanne Shapiro, another psychologist at MyCatholicDoctor. We are fortunate to have two wonderful sons and daughters-in-law, and their growing families.

When appropriate, Dr. Shapiro and I enjoy working together to provide psychotherapy for couples.

Thank you for considering my services.
